Concepts of Computer Networking

Ideas of Computer Networking Section 1: NETWORKING CONCEPTS Systems administration BASICS: At its most basic level, a PC arrange comprises of two PCs associated with one another by a link that permits them to share information. All PC organizing, regardless of how advanced stems from that basic framework. While associating two PCs by a link may not appear to be phenomenal, inretrospect it has demonstrated to be a significant accomplishment in interchanges. PC organizing emerged as a response to the need to share information in an ideal manner. PCs are amazing assets that can procedure and control a lot of information rapidly, yet they don't permit clients to share that information effectively. Prior to systems, clients required either to print out archives or duplicate record documents to a plate for others to alter or utilize them. On the off chance that others made changes tothe report, there was no simple method to blend the changes. This was, and still is, known as working in an independent domain. Kinds OF NETWORKS: PC systems can be sorted in the accompanying kinds. Neighborhood (LAN): A neighborhood (LAN) supplies organizing capacity to a gathering of PCs in nearness to one another, for example, in a place of business, a school, or a home. A LAN is valuable for sharing assets like records, printers, games or different applications. A LAN thus regularly associates with different LANs, and to the Internet . The most well-known sort of neighborhood is an Ethernet LAN. The littlest home LAN can have precisely two PCs; a huge LAN can oblige a large number of PCs. Numerous LANs are isolated into legitimate gatherings called subnets. METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK (MAN): MAN represents metropolitan zone arrange .It is a system of gadgets inside a territory of one to ten kilometers or with in a city. It might be a solitary system, for example, a digital broadcasting company or it might be a methods for interfacing various LANs into a bigger system with the goal that assets might be shared LAN to LAN just as gadget to gadget. WIDE AREA NETWORK (WAN): A WAN represent wide region arrange .It is spread all through the world. A WAN that is completely possessed and utilized by a solitary organization is regularly alluded to as an endeavor arrange. It can interface PCs and different gadgets on inverse sides of the world. A WAN is comprised of various interconnected LANs. Maybe a definitive WAN is the Internet. INTRANET: Anintranetis a privatecomputer networkthat usesInternet Protocoltechnologies to safely share any piece of an associations data or operational frameworks inside that association. The term is utilized conversely tointernet, a system among associations, and rather alludes to a system inside an association. Some of the time the term alludes just to the associations internalwebsite, however might be an increasingly broad piece of the associations data innovation foundation. It might have different private sites and comprise a significant segment and point of convergence of inward correspondence and joint effort. EXTRANET: Anextranetis a private system that usesInternet protocols, networkconnectivity. An extranet can be seen as a feature of a companysintranetthat is reached out to clients outside the organization, for the most part by means of theInternet. It has likewise been depicted as a perspective in which the Internet is seen as an approach to work with a chose set of different organizations (business-to-business, B2B), in confinement from all other Internet clients. In contrast,business-to-consumer(B2C) models include known servers of at least one organizations, speaking with already obscure customer clients. INTERNETWORK: An Internetwork is an assortment of at least two LANs associated by WANs. Internworks are alluded to conversely as information systems or basically arranges. The most mainstream internetwork is the Internet which is available to open. Segments OF NETWORK: An information correspondence framework has two fundamental segments:- Equipment COMPONENTS: Gadgets and media are the physical components or equipment of the system Hradware is regularly the noticeable parts of the system stage, for example, a PC, a PC or swtich and so forth used to associate the gadgets. Ocassionally a few segments probably won't be so noticeable. Gadgets: Gadgets of the system can be of two kinds that are the end gadgets and the go-between gadgets, we clarify both the sorts:- END USER DEVICES: An end use gadget alludes to a bit of hardware that is either the ousce or the goal of a message on a system. System clients usaully just observe or contact an end gadget, which is frequently a PC. Another would generic be able to term for an end gadget that sends or gets messages is a host. E.g host and end gadgets are Printers, Computers, Scanners, Webcams and so on. Middle person DEVICES: Middle person gadgets interface the indivisual hosts to the system or can associate different systems to frame an internetwork. Go-between gadgets are not no different. Some work inside the LAN to perfom exchanging capacities and others help course messages between systems. Case of middle person gadgets are Switches, Hubs and Routers and so forth. System MEDIA: Correspondence over a system is carried on a medium. The medium gives the channel over which the message ventures out from source to goal. The three principle kinds of media being used in a system are: COPPER: A contorted pair link typically utilized as a medium inside a LAN domain. FIBEROPTICS: Comprised of glass or plastic filaments in a vinyl covering typically utilized for long runs in a LAN and as a trunk. Remote: It interfaces neighborhood clients through air utilizing electromagnetic waves. Programming COMPONENTS: Programming segments can be partitioned in to two sections, administrations and procedures. Administrations: A system administration give data in responce to a solicitation. Administrations incorporate a significant number of the basic netowrk applications individuals utilize each day, similar to email facilitating administrations and web facilitating administrations. For an occurrence we can take case of YAHOO endeavor, they give mail benefits just as web administrations, there are various organizations offering these sort of administrations. Procedures: Procedures give the funtionality that coordinates and moves the messages through the system. Procedures are more subtle to us ut are basic to the opeation of systems. For instance seeing a page conjures one system process, tapping on a hyperlink makes an internet browser speak with a web server, similarly many system procedures can occur simultaneously. System TOPOLOGIES: Topology of a system is the geometrical portrayal of the relationship of the considerable number of connections and connecting gadgets to each other. PHYSICAL TOPOLOGIES: There are four essential physical topologies conceivable work, star, transport, and ring. Work TOPOLOGY: In a work topology each gadget has a devoted point to direct association toward each other gadget .A completely associated work arrange in this manner has n(n-1)/2 physical channels to connect n gadgets . STAR TOPOLOGY: In star topology every gadget has a devoted point to point association just to a focal controller generally called a center point . The gadgets are not straightforwardly associated with one another .Unlike a work topology ,a star topology doesn't permit direct traffic between gadgets the controller goes about as a trade : on the off chance that one gadget needs to send information to another it sends the information to the controller which at that point transfers the information to the next associated gadget. Transport TOPOLOGY: A transport topology then again is multi point one long link goes about as a spine to interface all the gadgets in a system hubs are associated with the transport link by drop lines and taps a drop line is an association running between the gadgets and the fundamental link a tap is a connector that either joins into the primary link or punctures the sheathing of a link to make a contact with the metallic center. RING TOPOLOGY: In a ring topology every gadget has a committed point to point association just with the two gadgets on either side of it . A sign is passed along the ring one way from gadget to gadget until it ranges to its goal conventions. Coherent TOPOLOGIES: The Logical topology characterizes how the frameworks convey over the physical topologies. There are two principle sorts of coherent topologies: Common MEDIA TOPOLOGY: In a common media topology, all the frameworks can get to the physical design at whatever point they need it. The fundamental bit of leeway in a common media topology is that the frameworks have unlimited access to the physical media. Obviously, the principle hindrance to this topology is impacts. In the event that two frameworks send data out on the wire simultaneously, the bundles impact and slaughter the two parcels. Ethernet is a case of a mutual media topology. TOKEN BASED TOPOLOGY: The token-based topology works by utilizing a token to give access to the physical media. In a token-based system, there is a symbolic that movements around the system. At the point when a framework needs to convey bundles, it snatches the token off of the wire, connects it to the parcels that are sent, and sends it pull out of the wire. As the symbolic goes around the system, every framework analyzes the token. At the point when the parcels show up at the goal frameworks, those frameworks duplicate the data off of the wire and the symbolic proceeds with its excursion until it returns to the sender. At the point when the sender gets the token back, it removes the token from the wire and conveys another unfilled token to be utilized by the following machine. Conventions: In data innovation, a convention (from the Greek protocollon, which was a leaf of paper stuck to an original copy volume, depicting its substance) is the exceptional arrangement of decides that end focuses in a media transmission association use when they convey. Conventions exist at a few levels in a media transmission association. For instance, there are conventions for the information exchange at the equipment gadget level and conventions for information trade at the application program level. In the st

How to Evaluate Your Activities for the AMCAS Application

This is the second post in our series on applying to med school in the most efficient and timely manner. You’ve got six months to make this happen. Make sure you do it right by following the tips in Med School Action Plan: 6 Steps for the 6 Months Before You Apply. In the time leading up to the submission of your application, you can improve your experience section by making sure that you have established a strong balance in the number and quality of your activities. The AMCAS application allows space for 15 activities. If you do not have 15 activities, find a way to get more involved in your community. It can actually hurt your application to have less than the total number possible. Also, it is better to have a combination of short and long term commitments. It can raise red flags if you only have activities that have lasted six months or less. A long term activity is one that you have continued for a year or longer. You can use the following criteria to evaluate your activities: Clinical experience: If you only have shadowing experience in this category, I recommend finding more active clinical involvement. Shadowing is not valued as highly as other types of clinical experience. It is considered the most passive form—the only person who benefits from shadowing is the student—not the doctor or the patient. However, if you can become a volunteer or a translator at a free clinic or travel to another country to assist in providing free medical services, you will gain more direct patient interaction and support healthcare professionals in providing care to people in need. Community Service: Your community service does not have to be medically related. Work with the populations that interest you the most—do you enjoy working with children or do you prefer assisting the elderly? Taking the time to work with people of all ages and backgrounds can help you decide what specialty or field of medicine you would like to pursue later in your career. All forms of community service are valuable. Leadership: If you have not yet taken a leadership role in any of your activities, now is the time. It’s better to have six months of leadership experience than none at all. Even if you have to push yourself to take on a more public role or more responsibility than you are used to, you may grow in ways that you never anticipated. This type of activity is critical to your application. Mentoring, tutoring or any kind of teaching role can be considered leadership experience. Cultural Awareness: Most medical schools have a question in their secondary applications about diversity. You can anticipate this question by building on your activities section by becoming involved in clubs or organizations that resonate with you on a cultural level. Learn more about your background. Teach others about your history and culture. We all have unique histories, experiences and interests to share. Research: Research is optional at most medical schools. Though it is not required, it can demonstrate your intellectual acuity and interest in understanding the basic sciences. It’s also a valuable way to showcase your ability to work with a team. Consider taking on a short-term research project, just to learn more about the scientific process. Whether you enjoy it or decide it’s not for you, you will have gained a more educated perspective. Taking the time to review your activities to make sure that you have 15—the limit—and that you have long term as well as short term activities that are balanced in the categories covered above will significantly improve the quality of your application. Don’t get caught up in the details—take a big picture perspective, as needed. For more guidance on how to be strategic about your activities, you are welcome to contact me or my colleagues at Accepted for expert advice. Destructiveness of The Treaty of Versailles Essay

The idea and practice that the loser in wars should be severely punished so as to prevent a future recurrence has been in existence since ancient times. After all, it is only a logical extension, to conflicts between nations, of the â€Å"eye for an eye† doctrine of vengeance. When the Greeks avenged Paris stealing of Helen, they burned Troy to the ground. When the Romans defeated Carthage in the Punic Wars, they went one step further – obliterating the city and spreading salt over the site of the city. In Utopia, Sir Thomas More writes that the Utopians’ one aim in wartime is to â€Å"punish the offenders so severely that nobody will ever dare to do such a thing again† (111). However, nothing could have prepared the world for the devastation†¦show more content†¦To find the motives behind the imposition of such a harsh peace as well as to justify its infeasibility, Keynes looks back to the 1870s. Whereas Europe was largely composed of self-subsis ting nations before then, the years after 1870 and leading up to the war were marked bythe simultaneous growth of overseas colonies and the labor supply, allowing agriculture and industry to grow at an â€Å"unstable† pace (9) and leading to increasing returns to scale with respect to food. The abundance of food spawned population growth and further development of industry, and lifted European economies into an unprecedented period of boom. In fact, Keynes admits that â€Å"In this economic Eldorado, in this economic Utopia, as the earlier economists would have deemed it, most of us were brought up† (10). With this unstable growth, Keynes points out four weaknesses. First, the population was expanding at a sizzling pace. To import food from America and the colonies, the European economies allocated more and more labor into industry to manufacture exports. The food then led to further population growth, need for even more food imports, need for more people devoted to industry, and so forth, in a vicious downward spiral. As Keynes aptly describes, economies like Germany’s â€Å"was like a top which to maintain its equilibrium must spin ever faster and faster† (13). Another weakness was the fragile and precarious organization that held together the economies ofShow MoreRelatedAmericas Decision to Jump into World War II Was Justified Essay1025 Words   |  5 Pagesto the creation of the just war theory. Why Social Capitol Is Important For The United States Of...

It is important to effectively integrate immigrants, and get them participating in Canadian political affairs. This will help Canadian society in the long term as it allows for a clearer understanding on how it is that their marginalized immigrant populous desires to be represented. Canada’s diverse population has various needs, and ethnic minorities are amalgamated as outliers as they continue to experience various forms of persistent inequality in the shape of social exclusion (and more specifically, social capitol). Education and language work unanimously in boosting immigrant participation levels in politics. It is through a greater knowledge base in education, paired with a comprehension in language that allows immigrants to acquire information and understand the mechanisms that relate to political participation (Nakhaie, 2). Basically, as an immigrant’s education increases the language barrier depletes this allows for an immigrant to contribute and participate to a greater extent in politics because of the diminishing language barrier (Nakhaie, 1). The development of effective and stable government depends significantly upon the alignment that people have in regards to the political process (Henderson, 2). This can be seen expressed in the people through another form of social capitol being the amount of trust that they have in the political system (Nakhaie, 3). Social capital is not just the sum of the institutions that fortify a society, but a binding element that

Child Observation Heath Essay Example For Students

Child Observation: Heath Essay This student observed a 5-year-old boy (Heath) that participated in a horse show with other kids and adults in Fountain, Colorado. The members of this club meet and compete in horse events during the summer months. The horse show has participants of different age and different skill levels. The first stage (Lead Line) has beginner level participants from any age group. Heath’s group (Pea Wee’s) is the next level up from the Lead Line group and consists of ages 6 and under. The next level is for more advanced children between 7 and 10. The next levels of the horse show also increase in increments of certain sets of ages that go up to any age. Heath’s participation and interactions with his grandfather’s horse and social interactions with the club were documented. The horse that Heath participated on was a well-trained horse that has been roped off and trained to listen to its rider for at least 4 or 5 years. Heath’s abilities and developments processes were noted about how he rode the horse and how he interacted with his family who were giving him instructions. His behavior, attention span, attitude, mapping abilities, excitement levels, learning styles and basic interactions will be viewed through developmental psychology. Some other interactions will be specifically related to his physical, motor, social, emotional, cognitive, language developments. Heath will also be briefly compared to the groups immediately above and below him, as well as, some of Heath’s interactions within this environment will be examined. Heath has participated in the Fountain show events since he was 4; although, Heath has been raised around horses and has been on them before he could walk. He practices riding his grandfathers horse at home with h. .s. Heath also had some abilities that were not as developed as some of the other children, especially in linguistic communication and complex sentencing. Heath was able to learn through his mentors and further his learning development through adult guidance. Heath was able to socialize with other children without them focusing on his language deficiency. Heath seems as if he was not as emotionally stable as other children. His lack of speech development prevents Heath from expressing all of his wants and needs because of his inadequate speech. This student could also be confusing Heaths difficult temperament with a lesser emotional state. Heath has some qualities that are greater than others his age but his speech setback may cause some further unforeseen delays. Works CitedBee, Helen, Boyd, Denise., (2010). The Developing Child. This area tries to focus and answer questions that disturb many people who find it hard to maintain relationship with other people especially the opposite sex. Understanding the opposite sex is very crucial to every individual who aspires to have a successful relationship. (Smith, E.Susan, N and Fredrick, B 2003) People always consult relationship experts who in this case happen to be psychologists to help them overcome fears and other challenges associated with relationships. This is one of the most fulfilling areas for a psychologists, it is full of life and energy. In this case a person who has studied psychology can also apply the things learned to put their relations in order. (Griggs, R 2009) The young ones make us happy and bring so much joy to our lives. As a parent it is important to be equipped with knowledge of child development so that he or she can know what to do with the child at any particular moment. To many psychology is bringing a whole new meaning to parenting. (Hayes, N 2000). Bringing up good kids is the dream of every parent, to get this psychology can be of great help. It pays to spare some time and money to enroll in a psychology class and gain the necessary knowledge on life management therefore achieving most of the goals one aspires. This again tells us that one can study psychology alongside other courses. It is a living course that helps us to cope with life better while understanding others and the things that surrounds us. (Morris, C and Maisto, A 2001) Psychology is a fascinating and an exiting course where students never get bored as they are always dealing with things that surround them and interact with in their day to day lives. The course is also challenging, it is not for the weak, it requires full concentration as giving the wrong impression or information can ruin peoples lives, it is a course for the strong willed individuals who want to make a difference in their lives and also make an impact in other people lives. Choosing psychology as a course in the university is one of the best decision that you will have made. It offers such a good chance to enrich your life with the skills which others will find very much useful and at the same time they will help in moulding you as a person to realize the dreams. Lastly there is a lot of money to be made for a psychologist, People will always have some issue to be dealt with, therefore a practicing psychologist will never be broke or complain of a low peak season while others are complaining of recession and other economic problems. You have made the right choice, do what it takes and you will never regret. 4 Scientific Ways To Convince Your Boss to Say Yes Every Time

4 Scientific Ways To Convince Your Boss to Say Yes Every Time As marketers, every month seems like the equivalent of a year in other industries. Marketing has  changed more in last few years than in the last 50 before them. Not only do we have to be awesome at being leaders, conversion experts, project managers, advertisers, copywriters, email wizards, and 48 other skills we have to build the skill of leading change. weve gotta kill the status quo before it kills us. and of course, we have to convince our bosses to go along with it all. This boils down to our ability to influence others. But, if youve ever read about the psychology of influencing others, it can be deflating. Doubly so when it comes to how to convince your boss or peers to try new stuff. 4 Ways To Convince Your Boss to Say Yes Every Time (Backed By Science)The Slightly Depressing Reality Of Influence One of the first principles of influence you come across is called the halo effect. In the 1920s, psychologist Edward Thorndike piloted a study of how military officers judge their subordinates. He found more physically attractive soldiers were were rated higher across the board on a four-point scale: intelligence, physique, leadership, and character. This means positive reactions to physical appearance were projected onto other areas of the soldiers. And as much as we hate to admit it, the rabbit hole goes deeper. This principle holds true in elections, as well. In a study called Beauty at the Ballot Box, researchers theorized that since physical attractiveness is a cue toward good health, we may be biologically programed to esteem it. Meaning were naturally inclined to favor attractive people. The halo effect is at work in our restaurants, as well. Another study called Beauty and the feast found that attractive servers earn roughly $1261 more per year than unattractive servers. And counterintuitively, Beauty matters more for female than male customers. Meaning pretty female waitresses get bigger tips from women. Oh yeah, and then theres this happy stat Pretty people earn 12% more money than average-looking humans. From politics to pot pies, something as shallow as looks play a major role in influencing others. However, when it comes to convincing your boss to say yes to that new process a fresh software tool obliterating makeshift marketing a flexible work-from-home policy we have more science-backed levers to pull than just our faces. 4 Ways To Convince Your Boss To Say Yes With The Power Of Science 🚀 In this post, Ill share the best research on ethical approaches to convince your boss to say yes to anything. No makeup required. Youll learn four tactics: How to position what youre asking for in concrete terms, How to align your change with team objectives, Why to conduct a trial run with a mini post-mortem conversation, And how to win by starting big, then going small. One of the most powerful changes we see is crushing the bug we call makeshift marketing. A major change to the marketing landscape is the volume of tools available. But, most of them dont play well together. This means marketers are awash in single-function tools that arent actually designed with marketers in mind. This makes your life more difficult and hurts your results. So, well walk through examples of leading change to combat it. Alright, saddle up. Its time to convince your boss to say yes every time. #1: Convince Your Boss To Say Yes Through Loss Aversion First up, lets talk opportunity cost. An opportunity cost is the benefit someone could have gained, but gave up, in favor of another action. When you choose one action over another, you lose the benefits of the alternative choice. With this first approach, we will capitalize on the principles of loss aversion and prospect theory. People fear loss more than they desire benefit. And this greatly influences the way they choose between options (aka: prospects). This means people will overweigh even the smallest opportunities for loss. A Nielsen Norman Group article summarizes it like this: When choosing among several alternatives, people avoid losses and optimize for sure wins because the pain of losing is greater than the satisfaction of an equivalent gain. For example, lets say you want to adopt a new marketing tool  like to replace a less effective one (or even multiple tools). Because there is a chance the new tool will cost more than its worth in hard cash  and  in lost productivity, your boss may be instantly loss averse. This will impact her choice between the prospects of status quo and potential loss. To capitalize on this understanding, simply structure your ask in two parts: If we do [thing you want] it will add [positive value]. If we dont do [thing you want] it will cost [negative value]. In this example, your ask might sound like: If we [adopt this new tool], it will give us a [55% lift in productivity per team member]. If we dont [adopt this new tool], we are actually losing [$1,255 per week in lost productivity]. The idea here is to highlight the gain as specifically as possible. Then showcase the loss of the alternative option - in this case changing nothing - as specifically as possible. This way, you can position the facts according to the emotional principles at play. Make loss aversion your friend and get to yes faster. #2: Convince Your Boss By Aligning Change With Team Goals Next, marketers have goals to hit. In fact, a recent study we conducted found that marketers who set goals are 429% more likely to be successful. To warm up your boss to a change, use this stat to your advantage. If you have goals, like driving  1,000 qualified leads every month Cash in on alignment theory. In essence, it posits that the most successful people understand their strengths and then arrange their lives in alignment with them. This theory works for individuals and is also portable for groups. Successful organizations tick using this principle. And the power of alignment is possible when strategy, goals, and purpose mutually reinforce one another. To put it to work with your boss, structure your ask for change like this: Our team is trying to achieve [goal]. But we have [failed] for the past [timeframe]. I think the best way we can do this right now is by [thing you want]  [based on prior success]. In keeping with our 1,000 qualified leads example, the ask might be: Our team is trying to achieve [1,000 qualified leads every month]. But weve [only reached 70% of that goal] for the [past three months]. I think the best way we can do this right now is by [focusing exclusively on driving traffic] [to our top-performing landing pages]. The change youre after is a shifted focus: driving more traffic. However, the goal youre trying to achieve is the same: 1,000 qualified leads. Its also super important to notice the last part of that statement based on prior success. If your team has had any related successes in the past, highlight them for leverage as proof. If your team has had any related successes in the past, highlight them for leverage as proof. In this example, it was top-performing landing pages. In their fantastic book, Switch, authors Chip and Dan Heath call these prior wins bright spots. Theyre extremely powerful because they showcase that positive results  are possible, because you have achieved them in the past. Youre team is capable of the results. So, youre aligning your methods accordingly. Bonus: This is also a great chance to sharpen your goal-setting strategy if it needs a little work. #3:Convince Your Boss With A Post-Mortem Post-mortems sound depressing but can I confess something? I think theyre awesome. A post-mortem is an analysis held after any project. Usually, its aim is to figure out: How on earth did things go so wrong?! However, I love them because theyre amazing chances to learn. Theyre even beneficial to hold on the heels of successful projects. No matter how well a project has gone, there are always things that can be improved.  They promote healthy self-reflection and can benefit your entire team. In this case, I want you to hold a mini post-mortem with your boss in advance of your ask. The reason is twofold. You can learn why similar changes have failed in the past. You can pre-empt legitimate objections your boss will have ahead of time. Why Have Other Things Failed? By learning why other initiatives have failed, you can learn what pitfalls to avoid. For instance, if youre proposing a move from spreadsheets to   - or a similar transition from a clunky way of doing things - how helpful would it be to learn that the last tool transition to be shot down actually had the support of your manager, but got squashed by the CFO? An easy way to phrase this question is, When was the last time we wanted to get budget for a new project, idea, or tool in our department? If the last attempt failed, you can follow with, Why do you think it failed? And is there any way it could have been approved? If it succeeded, even better! You can ask, Why was it successful? And how has it panned out? Overcoming Legitimate Objections Next, you can glean what legitimate objections your boss may have to your idea. Almost every boss Ive ever had loved to say, Yes! to great ideas. But so many of my attempts at leading a new change as the underling failed because I didnt understand their field of visibility. Field of visibility means their viewpoint informed by the things they know that I dont. Often, its the difference between someone standing on a balcony and someone in the crowd below. Company execs sit in meetings that you dont. They hear forecasts, plans, and upcoming constraints that you dont. They understand organizational dynamics you may have missed. They see your team from a broader perspective than you might. This means understanding their field of visibility is incredibly beneficial. With an informal post-mortem, you can dig into why a similar change failed. This will help you position your ask to overcome your bosss legitimate (or even illegitimate) objections. Whether its data  A project champion up the chain Or competitive research You can gain insight beforehand to have great answers to tough questions. #4: Convince Your Boss By Asking Big, Then Small Last, if youre a marketer, youve probably heard of the rule of reciprocity. Psychologist and mega best-selling author Robert Cialdini explains it in his book  Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion like this. He says, The rule says that we should try to repay, in kind, what another person has provided us [and] by virtue of the reciprocity rulewe are  obligated to the future repayment of favors, gifts, invitations, and the like. The idea is to do something for someone else  before you ask them to do something for you. When you do so, youre far more likely to get that coveted yes. But honestly, this principle might be effective, but its too manipulative for me to entertain actually doing this. Call me a boy scout, but that seems like a pretty sketchy move. And worse, an infringement on a healthy relationship. Now that Ive taken a stand on my moral high ground, Ill share with you a version of this rule Id happily endorse 😎 Cialdini also shares a specific application of this rule called bargaining, saying, Bargaining is frequently used in the negotiation process, which involves reciprocal concessions. That is, if Person A rebuffs a large request from Person B, and Person B then concedes by making a smaller request, Person A will feel obligated to reciprocate this concession with a concession of his or her own by agreeing to this lesser plea. In 1975, researchers on the Arizona State University campus cracked the code on exactly how this works. Their experiment was pretty slick. Half of the students in the test were asked, Will you chaperone juvenile-detention-center inmates on a day trip to the zoo? Only 17% of them said yes. The other half of the test subjects were asked a leading question first: Will you volunteer as a juvenile-detention-center counselor for two hours per week for the next two years? Everyone said no to the first question. However, almost 50% said yes to the second question about chaperoning the zoo visit! The angle for our marketing purposes is pretty obvious. Construct two versions of your ask.

Communication (Neo-Liberalism) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Communication (Neo-Liberalism) - Essay Example Surveillance has become part of media and to some extent life too. Current communication policy is ruled by the technological discoveries and achievements. UNESCO's New World Information and Communication Order have sponsored various world summits to evolve and update communication policies based on the emerging neoliberalism and other connected theories. Neoliberal visions and revisions of the global communication policy are focused on the technical aspects of communication. Globalization, technical evolution and democratization are the forces that have introduced neoliberalism. According to Andrejevik (2004), reality surveillance shows like Big Brother are not tremendously popular and is only viewed by spectators willing to enter into a virtual space; but this does not mean that it is not successful and its success is attributed to its democratic attitude, though considered to be a distorted version by others. He says this is mainly because of the emergence of a surveillance based economy gives authenticity to the reality shows and how the society is reacting to them without being obviously revolutionalised by them. Also there is a genuine fear that the bad old days of police states, unlimited surveillance and authoritarian regimes are not far off, due to the communication and media technologies that are becoming more and more aggressive every day. In addition to this, sociologists are worried about the addictive shopping that might overtake all other priorities. Bennett, who gives historical and political background through Freudian concepts of psychoanalysis as a contributing factor, invoking Freud's penchant for economic explanations of the psyche, talks about getting motivated by the unconscious marketing and goes to the extent of sexualizing advertised products which will once again lead the unconscious buyers into compelling addictive shopping. "Addictive shopping first entered the psychiatric textbooks in 1915; but it was only in the 1990s that it became the subject of a raft of psychological theories and therapies offering to explain and address the emotional needs and personality traits assumed to give rise to compulsive spending" Bennett (2005). No doubt, this is stating it in its extremity with 'utmost skepticism'; but the days of unlimited freedom, individuality and privacy seem to be very fast disappearing and this is a disturbing trend. According to Williams tries to attach neoliberalism into Marxist theories and thinks it is necessary to understand both the dominant and the residual cultures. He argues that cultural emergence could be complex; but is of major importance, as the social order is changing and right now it is difficult to differentiate between the dominant and the secondary. Because the society under neoliberalism has not yet reached the changed perspective; instead, it is still going through the stage of pre-emergence of the final form."Again and again what we have to observe is in effect a pre-emergence, active and pressing, but not yet fully articulated, rather than the evident emergence which could be more confidently named. It is to understand more closely this condition of pre-emergence, as well as the more evident forms of the emergent, the residual, and the dominant, that we need to explore the concepts of struct6ures of feeling," Williams (1977). Neoliberalism is

Air force fume billboard Essay Air force fume billboard Introduction   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In 1943 John Garfield, John Ridgley, Gig Young â€Å"The troop of an Air Force† bomber disembark in the Harbor in the outcome of the Japanese assault and is mailed on to Manila to provide a hand with the attack of the Philippines (Suids, 1996).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   There are observable characteristics, which attract customers to the product. Basing our argument on the above film are lifestyles, standards, color, physical appearance, taste, motivations, opinion, and desires. These take account of distinctiveness such as cheerful, preservationist, and safety-cognizant, value-oriented, class-driven. In our case, color attracts ones attention such that the distant-customers move closer.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Color information is supportive in identifying objective. It can be, sometimes, misleading. One of the tribulations with regard to images is the equivalent objects might have dissimilar colors and intensities when the illumination situation changes or there are dimness. It occurs predominantly often in our assignment. The billboard images for patterns were taken independently in a different circumstance from the unambiguous game in the video progression. However, in the live match dissemination, the lighting condition is diverse and they even revolutionize often during the match (Toyoshima, (2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Furthermore, there are numerous shadows caused by the players ahead of the billboards. When we to make use of the template color as the sample color and try to come across areas with the related color in the edge. The tolerant level is sky-scraping, a lot of gratuitous area will be incorporated and the diminution in searching area is not very considerable; on the other hand, if the lenient level is low, we have the risk of ignoring the main area. The brightly brown color captures awareness to the customers. The billboards exhibit great advertisements to fleeting pedestrians and even drivers. Characteristically, screening outsized, apparently amusing slogans, and distinguishing visuals. The billboards are exceedingly noticeable in the summit in market places. The bulletins are the leading modern-size billboards. They are located mainly on major highway, expressway and market zones to attract or capture peoples’ attention (Toyoshima, 2008)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   More so, imagery as a stylistic device applies during advertisement. For instance, â€Å"AIR FORCE† here implies war. This is the war of the crew against the Japanese as explained on synopsis. This type of film designed in such a way that it entails different styles. Since it is in a class of luxury has to be standard and specially designed to reach the test of customers. Primarily a good copy communicates to the ideal clients. In this case, the copy creates a great physical impression to the customers. In so doing more, sales are systematical done due to its unique appearance on the customers’ eyes (Suid, 2002).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Addition to that, customers like a description on the product in the market. Therefore, the synopsis contained on the copy gives customer detailed-evidence information in the copy. Furthermore, copywriter includes power words, which are very patting to the clients. ssOccasionally, these words are termed as power words which a very influential to the customer. They are advisable to apply in the language. In the above copy, â€Å"AIR FORCE† is an example of power words. Edges are very noteworthy illustration features in image processing. They are the points with high passion contrast and portray margins of objects contained in an image. Using periphery information of a copy also significantly condenses the amount of data while preserving the essential structural properties of an image. This gives a good impression to sight hence encouraging more purchases (Toyoshima, 2008). References Suid, L. H. (1996). Sailing on the silver screen: Hollywood and the US Navy. The P2P Piracy Prevention Act Attacks Consumers Essay example -- Techn

The P2P Piracy Prevention Act Attacks Consumers Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks have had a staggering growth in the past few years. Since Napster, dozens of P2P networks have been created in its imitation. Due to the growing accessibility of broadband, which increases the speed of downloads, P2P networks generate nearly 1.8 billion downloads per month. Popularity and acceptance is still continually growing. As many users see P2P software as just file sharing, entertainment industries and other big companies see it as copyright infringement and stealing from copyright owners without their rightful authorization or compensation. These companies complain that P2P file sharing threatens the survival of the industries and believe that there should be a law passed to protect the livelihood of the copyright holders. For some time now companies, copyright owners and Congress have tried to develop a security standard to protect copyrighted works from unauthorized reproduction and distribution, but they have not yet found a thoroughly effective solution. They know that shutting down all P2P networks is not the right response since file sharing is valuable to some extent since its method of sharing and transferring information supports a variety of efficient business models. Instead they want to deal with the copyright infringements that P2P networks facilitate. An option that copyright owners have considered toward protecting their works from circulating in P2P networks is to use a variety of technological tools to prevent piracy. Portrait and a Dream Essay

Abstract expressionists, James Pollock created an abstract full of symbolically hidden messages, called The Portrait and a Dream, 1953.   First impressions that are given off by this painting sends messages of confusion, anger, hopeless dreams, perhaps the inner thought and feelings of the artists when he made the abstract. The art work portrays someone who furiously scribbled many lines across the canvas in no controlled manner, working from hostile and angry emotions. If music was made to match this painting, it would not be smooth jazz or classical, but like rap with an angry fast techno beat producing violence.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   When considering the title of the painting, and looking at the line arrangements, Pollock was telling a story about his frustrations over empty dreams. Dull, plain off color canvas is chosen as the background for this art. To the right is a very black and Halloween orange colored head, perhaps an indication of what is going on in his mind as he was painting; or it could be a resemblance of him in his sleep at night. The main theme or point behind this painting appears to send messages to let someone know this person is upset. Many artists write songs, create paintings, choreograph dances to get certain points to someone who has made them upset. Pollock seems to be sending an underlying message to one person, a person who somehow blocked him from his achievements, even though many people are fascinated with this abstract. To the center gearing to the right, is an eye that can be of human form. The rest of the face takes on the identity of an animal, perhaps a wild cat. The selected mixture of autumn colors with hidden images of a cat peaking through to the audience implies this painting applies to Halloween, or fall season. The overall shape of the Halloween colored ball or head has a few stray extensions leading away from the ball. The head is looking toward the mass of confusion, on the left side of the painting.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   On the left side, is many scribbled black lines, portraying confusion, or despair. The black fills in some of the empty spaces overseeing the left side of the portrait. Most of the painting is hollowed or emptied, just lines zigzagging and crossing one another. A couple of potential faces are drawn into the scrambled lines. One of the faces centers the overall portrait, another is found at the bottom right side.   The face centering the portrait has clenched teeth, the eyes resemble anger. The potential face at the bottom right very much looks like a skeleton with cross bones, the national symbol for poison or danger.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Looking at the overall view of this painting, the round colored object on the right of the painting is smaller than the confused lines on the left side of the painting. The drawing portion of the art fills up most of the space, dividing into two separate forms, lays against a solid background. The circular object on the right side resembling his own head, revealing the inner secretive contents looking out at the painting resembling confusion, indicates that his confusion, despair and hopelessness is , perhaps to much for him to bear. The interpretations of this painting can be limitless. However, anyone can look at this painting, instantly recognize this painting is not conveying a pleasant, peaceful or calm tonality.   Lack of bright contrasting colors may portray images or ideas that are the total opposite of confusion. Someone else may interpret the hidden meanings of the abstract portrait as lots of energy, or hyperactivity, unable to sit still or even a pleasant excitement.

Essay on Preventing Homelessness - 895 Words

Preventing Homelessness Sara Lewis HSM/210 November 6, 2010 Homelessness is a growing problem in today’s society. Because of the economic crises, many people are losing his or her jobs because company’s had to cut back on expenses, as well as companies that have closed down completely.
